People who can't see are often in
danger of bumping into things. Unfortunately, reality never rearranges
itself for the convenience of the blind. That may be a cruel fact of life,
but not much can be done to change it.
The same is true for the
psychologically and spiritually blind. Where does our blindness hurt us and get
us into trouble?
Spiritual blindness reveals its
harmfulness through its symptoms. Sometimes the symptoms show themselves
as unreasonable sadness, anger, or anxiety, or at other times perhaps through a
vague and a persistent dissatisfaction with life.
Many people are reluctant to take
the time to understand the possible meaning of those symptoms when they discover
them. But if they do, they become wise.
We sometimes cause our own
suffering by our refusal to see and accept life as it is. |
