| It
would be easier to love others if they would meet our expectations. We
have preconceived ideas of what people should be like, and if they live up to
those ideas, we love them. The same is
often true about our love for God. As long as our preconceived ideas are
met, we can find a certain kind of happiness. But eventually, we discover a big
problem with that.
People are hardly ever what we want them to be.
God is never quite what we want Him to be either. and so we are in danger
of being disappointed in our relationships with God and with others.
To love sacrificially means to accept and love
life as it is, and others as they are. That is the real miracle of life
and it results in a new state of consciousness.
As long as we struggle with this, we are not at
peace. But we need to accept even our lack of peacefulness, if that is
where we are.
When we accept things as they are, we love
ourselves and others unconditionally, the way God loves us.
Perhaps that is the only kind of love that offers
ourselves and others a power to change. |
