A sculptor sees a block of marble
and envisions the latent possibilities within it. Slowly and carefully, he
chips away at the marble, and gradually its possibilities begin to take shape.
Finally, his persevering artistry
produces a magnificent piece of work that brings joy not only to himself, but
also to others.
Something similar happens when a
person looks at her life with the eyes of a sculptor. She sees the latent
possibilities. Slowly band carefully, whatever blocks out the chosen image
is chipped away.
Finally, the persevering love
produces a polished personality that brings joy not only to the individual
herself, but also to others.
If our lives sometimes seem like
blocks of marble, we need the artistic intuition to see the latent possibilities
within ourselves that we can bring to life.
We are created with latent
possibilities that reflect something of God's image. We need to chip away
the selfishness that keeps the image from taking shape in us. |
