| The basis of most
quarrels is a desire to dominate, to be right, to control.
This is the opposite of what Jesus teaches.
The person who follows Jesus is one who empties himself and serves. He lets go
of himself for the sake of others.
Perhaps the letting go of the ego is the
difference between a quarrel and the standing up for a principle. We have
to stand up for principles simply because we have to stand up for what is just,
for what is good and right.
Quarrels begin when our egos become overly
involved in our disputes.
Quarrels begin when we insist on being right in
those areas of life where it does not really matter.
We need to learn the difference between standing
up for what is right and arguing merely for the sake of protecting a fragile
ego. When we forget the difference, we are likely to find ourselves
wasting time in useless quarrels. |
