| A room
becomes stuffy and uninviting when its doors and windows are rarely opened.
Because it remains closed, the air within it turns stale.
Something similar happens to people when they become
closed in upon themselves. Their excessive self-preoccupation causes inner
stagnancy. It destroys their freshness of spirit.
People who open the doors of their lives to the
presence and needs of others are able to experience life with a fresh
perspective. Their consciousness is freed from being paralysed by their
own personal concerns, and they discover a freedom that allows them to expend
more energy in the service of others.
As their self-preoccupation diminishes, they have
the freshness of mind to deal more effectively with the personal problems that
life invariably presents. |
