| What most people
yearn for is not someone to solve their problems, but someone to listen to them.
They long to be accepted and understood, to know that someone cares about them
and is willing to walk with them through at least a part of their difficult life
journey. Someone who does that for another
offers a very great service. Listening lightens the burden for others and
offers a space where healing can occur.
What about our own burdens? Even though we
may prefer to carry our burdens in silence, we have as much need for a caring
listener as anybody else.
Sometimes important insights come to us when we
allow ourselves to talk out our problems. And who could not benefit from
they acceptance and encouragement that comes from a listener who cares about us?
We can find many excuses to avoid talking about
our life burdens, but relief is far more likely to come when we stop carrying
our burdens in solitary silence. |
