| If you
want to know the presence of God in your life, take a lesson from fire.
Fire only unites itself to what it burns when it burns brightly and deeply.
Otherwise, there is only smoke. In a
similar way, you only come to know God when you burn for the experience of
knowing him. Otherwise, you never see deeply.
Desire makes vision possible. God cannot
show himself to you unless His revelation meets your desire. If there is
no desire, there in no expectation, no state of being awake, no consciousness
eager to receive the revelation.
The desire to know God is God's gift. But
if the gift is not received with a wide-awake enthusiasm, the gift has no
meaning for the one who receives it.
God becomes real for us in proportion to the
eagerness of our desire to discover him. |
