To be sure his company won't lose the ideas its employees come up with,
William Donahoo, CEO of Clinch River Corp., provides every worker with a special pocket notebook for recording suggestions.
Donahoo was overwhelmed by suggestions when his company bought a Harriman,
Tenn., paperboard plant and rehired laid-off workers. So he passed out three-by-five-inch notebooks marked, "Good Ideas for Clinch River."
Each week management lists each suggestion, the employee who made it, and
its status. "In eight weeks, we got more than 100 ideas, "Donahoo says. Nearly half of them are already being implemented.
