An audio or video broadcast on the web,
usually of an event such as a concert, an interview or a sports fixture. Webcasting has become a popular way of increasing the stickiness of portal
sites, especially those run by isps, but it is widely used by traditional
media as a way of disseminating material to a global audience. The
improvement in streaming media technology has given webcasting some
much-needed credibility with consumers, but it needs big increases in
bandwidth to become really effective. The use of multicasting technology is
becoming more widespread for webcast events on the mbone. Some people use
the term to describe push media. |
