The World wide Consortium, a group
devoted to the shepherding of new technical standards for the web. Based at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (mit) and headed by Tim
Berners-Lee (the inventor of html and http, and thus of the web itself), the
W3C oversees the development of extensions and additions to the underlying
languages and technologies currently propping up the web. A good example of
what happens when academics are let loose with great technology is its
website, at www.w3.org. |
