The latest in the v series of modem
standards. V .90 modems can theoretically transmit data downstream (that is
, from a remote machine to the one in which the modem is installed) at 56kbps.
What sets them apart from other modems is that downstream data does not need
to be modulated; it is instead passed as a bitstream encoded to use nearly
all of a typical isp's 64k digital line capacity. |
