Universal Description, Discovery and
Integration. UDDI promises to solve one of the biggest problems for
businesses: making themselves properly visible to potential business
partners on the web. At the same time, it provides tools to help sift useful
data about other companies' products and services from the ever increasing
mass of data
online. In essence, it is simply a web-based registry in which
businesses can list and describe their services on the internet in ways that
make them easy to find and use. Using uddi, a company looking for
specific kinds of human-resources management services, for example, could
search the registry and find offerings that matched its own technical and
logistical criteria. The result of an initiative from ibm, Ariba and
Microsoft, the uddi project is now supported by hundreds of
companies keen to ensure that their next-generation web offerings,
especially web services, are visible to potential customers and
interoperable with products from other vendors. |
