A piece of standard text attached to the
end of an e-mail message. Many people use signatures to automatically add
their contact details to their communications. Some extend this idea by
adding quotes, witticisms or company mottoes. Perhaps the best-known
examples are corporate disclaimers, most of which are considerably longer
than the messages to which they are appended. Many e-mail programs allow
their users to create multiple signatures from which they can select the
most appropriate at the time of sending their message, a feature which has
got absent-minded communicators into trouble when attaching irreverent or
indecent examples to bosses or family members. |
