A pejorative term for an aspiring hacker or
cracker, especially one who modifies viruses and other harmful
pieces of software with the intention of disrupting other people's computer
systems. Script kiddies usually regard themselves as ingenious and daring,
but they are generally treated with disdain by hardcore hackers and
crackers, who consider them lazy, untalented and incapable of writing real
software. Still, they are capable of wreaking considerable havoc. Many
contemporary e-mail hosted viruses, including 2000's disruptive I Love You
and its variants, are the work of script kiddies, and much of the damage
caused by Trojan Horse programs has been ascribed to their work. |
