Access to a computer system or network from a
distant location, usually by dialling in with a modem. A typical
example of remote access is a dial-up connection to an isp. Many
workers now rely on remote access to stay in touch with their offices while
travelling or working at home. By dialling into a remote access server,
which is usually equipped with a firewall and other security devices,
they can access network resources as if they were on a local machine. |
