whose business depends entirely on revenue from its online
operations. Some pure-play companies, such as amazon and ebay,
have demonstrated that they can stay afloat without the need for support
from a brick-and-mortar operation. But many others have discovered that
purity is a virtue they may most of the original pure-players have long
