A multipurpose acronym, originally
designed to operate in parallel with pots but now assuming a life of
its own. Purists argue that pans stands for Public Access Network
Services, part of a vision of a society in which everyone has access to
information sources, regardless of social circumstances, as a basic
democratic right. Less worthy sources claim it as the short form of pretty
Amazing Network Services, a general description of new high-speed
communications networks such as adsl. Everyone else thinks that it
stands for pretty Awesome New Stuff, an umbrella term covering more or less
every post-pots technological development. |
