The convention of politeness on usenet. Many
relate to the niceties of posting messages in newsgroups; for
example, advertising beef products in alt.food.vegan is a clear breach of
netiquette. Individual newsgroups often have their own conventions, which
are usually explained in the group's f a q. The penalties for not
observing netiquette are generally minor, although repeat offenders may find
that life online suddenly becomes extremely uncomfortable. Lucky ones
may get away with a flame; less fortunate individuals have found
their credit-card details posted to Usenet, or worse. |
