The transmission of messages from a
single sender to many recipients. Multicasting may be as simple as sending a
daily newsletter from a website to several hundred subscribers, or as complex as updating the
software on thousands of machines on a global corporate network. A
specific kind of multicasting is used on the mbone, a high-speed
portion of the internet designed for the delivery of large video and audio
files such as live concerts. |
