The digital equivalent of road rage. Mail rage (or
e-mail rage) describes the sense of anger that may be felt by recipients of
inflammatory or annoying e-mail messages, prompting them to send abusive or
ill-considered replies. E-mail programs are easy to use, and their immediacy
has prompted some individuals to respond aggressively to perceived
provocation or irritation without pause for thought. Most mail-rage
incidents involve nothing more serious than an undignified and usually
private exchange of views, although careers have been damaged by intemperate
reactions to unwelcome messages. Some companies now routinely advise their
employees on appropriate techniques for controlling mail rage while at their
desks. |
