A gradual process whereby links from web
pages to other pages or sites become unusable, usually resulting in a 404 not
found message. Linkrot is generally caused by sites reorganising their
structure and moving or deleting pages in the process, or by the closure of
a site. Despite the availability of many site management tools that track
and maintain links, some surveys show that almost one in four web pages
contains bad links. |
