A communications line that
is rented for private use. Leased lines, sometimes known as dedicated lines, have a number of benefits
for companies sending or receiving large amounts of data. The biggest is that
the fixed bandwidth of the line (which can very from pots speed to high-
speed fibre or satellite rates, depending on how much you are prepared to
pay) is not shared with anyone else, thus guaranteeing a particular level of
service. This contrasts with frame relay connections, which share lines with
other users. |
