Time taken to get thing done in the
fast-moving internet environment. Not a cl early-defined fraction of standard
linear timescales, but nonetheless a measure of the fact that things happen
faster on the internet than in the real world. This transformative effect is
especially apparent in the software and hardware industries, where an
already rapid rate of change has been greatly accelerated by extreme
competition and massive demand for new products and services.
The
term is also used to describe a new, standardised global time measurement
system proposed by Swatch, a Swiss watch manufacturer, which divides the day
into 1,000 units called beats. Interest in this idea has so far been
limited. |
