File Transfer Protocol, a standard way
for computers on the internet to exchange files. Like http, ftp programs use the
tcp/ip protocols on which the internet is based to manage the
transmission of binary files from one place to another. Many html
authors use ftp to transfer web page files to their web server,
and it is commonly used to download programs and other binary
files from host computer on the internet. Most browsers are capable of
downloading files using ftp. |
