A copy of an e-mail message sent to one
or more recipients other than the main addresses. The other recipients'
addresses appear in the cc box at the top of the message so the principal
recipient can see who else it was sent to. Most e-mail programs also
include a blind carbon copy (bcc) function, which copies the message
invisibly; that is, addresses in the bcc box will not be seen by other
recipients. The term dates back to a time when the only way of creating a
copy of a letter or memo typed on a typewriter was to lay a sheet of carbon
paper between two sheets of typing paper, thus creating a carbon impression
of the original on the lower sheet. |
