A generally pejorative term for a
website or page that simply replicates a company's paper-based marketing
materials. The brochureware approach was widely adopted in the early days of
the web before the new medium's potential was fully under stood, and it is
still an attractive option for smaller businesses unwilling to pay for
more complex web presences. Despite the sneers of new-media gurus and
professional web designers, brochureware still has some real benefits for
companies offering simple products and services, at the very least ensuring
that casual browsers stand a chance of finding them, especially in
conjunctions with a good search engine. Many low-cost tools for
helping them create it are available. |
