Strictly, a form of data transmission in
which several parallel channels pass across a single cable or wire. A good
example of a true broadband medium is cable TV, which pumps huge amounts of
data to viewers across very fast landlines. The term is used more
generically to describe high-speed circuits and signals, especially those
relating to fast-growing internet technologies such as adsl and
cable. Many content providers and protals are upgrading their
system in preparation for the rapid uptake of broadband by consumer, and are
preparing to offer enhanced high-bandwidth service based on audio and video. |
