A lot of people don't choose
the way of evil not because they intrinsically prefer good but because they
fear the consequences-- both earthly and perhaps divine-- of doing bad
things. On the other hand, many more people would also not choose evil only
they realised how boring evil can ultimately be. Consider for example what
would have happened if Hitler had won the war.
The first thing the man would
have done would be to again pursue his aggressive foreign policy of
Lebensraum of expanding German "living space" which, by the invasion of
Poland, had triggered World War II in the first place. This time around he
would forcibly take over all the countries that had remained neutral during
the war such as Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden, etc. Once these became German
territories, he would implement the Nazi government's other policies all
over the world since the world would in effect have become his dominion by
then, and he its unquestioned lord.
At the top of the list would
be the extermination of the world's 15 million Jews. If six million could
have been eliminated during the course of the War, another nine million in
Holocaust II Would be no problem when wielding world power. Nazi racial
thinking would next turn to other people who were not considered part of
the Volksgemeinschaft, or people's community. Identified as "life not worthy
of life" these people would include those who were criminal, degenerate,
dissident, feeble-minded, homosexual, communists, trade unionists, idle,
insane, religious and weak for elimination from the chain of heredity.
Meaning killed. Finally, Nazi eugenics and racial social policies would
place the "improvement" of the remaining races in the hands of thousands of
future Dr. Mengeles. Scientific breakthroughs in the field of biotechnology
and genetic engineering would be subverted to the demands of the perceived
Aryan ideal.
This would result in a flat
world full of uniformly tall, blond, blue- eyed, social Darwinists patriotic
to the Fatherland and owing unadulterated allegiance to the Fuhrer and where
all men were breadwinners while women's priorities lay in bringing up kids
and household work. Can anyone imagine something so monstrously evil
becoming so pathetically boring in the end ? Even if Hitler hadn't succeeded
in committing suicide by then, he would definitely commit it now. |
